Summary of "Expert Detectives"
The story is about two curious siblings, Nishad (Seven) and Maya, who try to find out more about their mysterious neighbor, Mr. Nath. Mr. Nath lives alone in a room at Shankar House, has burn scars on his face, and rarely talks to anyone. The children wonder if he is a criminal hiding from the police.
Maya strongly believes that Mr. Nath is a crook because he has no job, receives no letters, and only has one visitor—a fat man who comes every Sunday. She thinks he must have hidden wealth from his crimes. Nishad, on the other hand, feels sorry for Mr. Nath. He notices how thin and lonely he looks. When Nishad visits him, he even gives him a chocolate bar out of kindness.
To gather more clues, Nishad talks to Ramesh, a worker at a nearby restaurant. Ramesh tells him that Mr. Nath eats simple food, pays in cash, and tips generously. This makes Nishad even more convinced that Mr. Nath is just a lonely man, not a criminal.
Maya and Nishad argue about their different opinions. Maya is eager to prove her detective skills and solve a crime, while Nishad just wants to help Mr. Nath. The story ends with Nishad wanting to befriend Mr. Nath, while Maya remains suspicious.
The story highlights how people can see the same situation differently—one with suspicion and the other with kindness.
