A king wanted answers to three questions: What is the right time to begin something? Which people are most important? What is the most important thing to do? He promised a reward to anyone who could answer but received conflicting responses. Some suggested preparing timetables, others advised relying on wise counselors, and some believed only magicians could predict the right time. For the second question, suggestions included counselors, priests, doctors, or soldiers. The third question brought answers like science, warfare, or religious worship. Dissatisfied, the king sought a wise hermit in a forest.

Dressed simply, the king approached the hermit, who was digging. The king offered to help. After hours of digging, the king repeated his questions, but the hermit stayed silent. Just then, a wounded man stumbled into the clearing. The king tended his wounds and stayed the night.

The next morning, the wounded man revealed he was the king’s enemy, seeking revenge for his brother's death and loss of property. The king’s actions had saved his life, prompting him to pledge loyalty. The king forgave him and promised to return his property.

Before leaving, the king asked the hermit again for answers. The hermit explained:  

- The most important time is now, as it’s the only moment we can act.  

- The most necessary person is the one you are with, as the future is uncertain.  

- The most important task is to do good for that person, fulfilling our purpose in life.  

The king left, enlightened by the wisdom.
